Yasmin is a 15-year-old living with her widowed mother and five siblings in a little house in Gaza. Her father was killed on his way to the hospital for a kidney dialysis session; he was attacked as part of the Israeli aggression against Gaza in early 2009. Her father’s tragic and sudden death had a profound impact on Yasmin. Suffering from anxiety, she began detaching herself from day to day activities, including her studies.

When Yasmin enrolled in Mustaqbali, our staff gave her access to the support she needed on both the academic and psychological levels. A dedicated counselor worked with her to overcome her tragic loss, while also helping her to strengthen her learning techniques. Yasmin registered in our remedial education program because she was struggling with math. By the end of the year, her math score was an astounding 100%.

Yasmin is now one of Gaza’s top students. Her dream is to become a nephrologist, to help people that suffer from chronic kidney disorders, like her late father.
