Welfare Association (WA) honors winners of its awards in Gaza

As part of WA’s efforts in honoring and promoting community and individual pioneers in Palestine, three awards were given to three winners in the Gaza Strip in a ceremony took place at Atfaluna Society in Gaza.

WA Awards target societies which achieved remarkable accomplishments in the progress of the Palestinian society, economy and culture, and for individuals whether entrepreneur, creative or initiators in serving Palestine.

Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children received “WA Award for Gaza Strip for social organizations 2014” for its effective efforts on the ground and distinguished work in deaf training to be self-dependent and involved in the community.

Atfaluna Chairman, Mr. Sharhabil Al-Zayeem, who received the award expressed his pride of winning the award and of having such organization [WA] that empowers the local community and appreciates creativity and excellence.

Light and Hope School for Blind was a winner of “WA Award for Education” with other winners of the same award. Other schools are two schools in Jerusalem and Haifa.

The award was given to Light & Hope School for its project of the ‘Digital book’ which exports regular school textbooks into audio material that is easier for blind students to learn.

Yasir Moustafa, founder of “Biddak Hada [Want someone]” initiative in Gaza, was given “WA Award for Youth”. His initiative is an electronic portal that facilitates finding technicians and fixer through Internet.

It’s worth mentioning that WA Awards started in 2003 as an initiative by members of WA’s Board of Trustees to launch yearly awards to honor major donors, Palestinian civil organizations and individuals who are distinguished in their efforts for the good of the Palestinian society. Such awards creates an encouraging atmosphere and positive competition among organizations and individuals for excellence and creativity in various fields.
